Equipment Needed and HOW-TO Install Information

Camera

All non-board cameras have the leads and connectors on them. They may be RCA or BNC. Most board cameras have leads that must be soldered.

If you have more than 1 camera, you will need cable for each camera.

Power Supply

For 1 or 2 camera systems, a 12v 500ma DC power supply will suffice. For 3 or 4 cameras, a 12v 1500ma power supply is needed. Some cameras have the power supply included.

Cable

Select the cable length necessary to do the installation. Some cameras already have the cable included with the camera. Most cables are power and video ONLY. If you have audio capabilities, purchase a cable that has power, video, AND audio. Cable length in 30', 60', 100' and 250'

Monitor or your own TV with AV inputs

You may use a monitor or a regular TV with video and audio inputs. Also, you may connect to a VCR. Be sure that if you are purchasing a color camera, you have a color monitor/TV. Some monitors have built-in 2 channel switchers allowing 2 cameras to be connected and viewed on switching screens.

Additional Equipment Needed For Multiple Cameras

Switcher          OR         Quad processor

If you have more than 1 camera, you will need a monitor with 2 camera capability or a 4 channel switcher or a quad processor. This will allow up to 4 camera in and 1 lead out to monitor/TV and VCR. A switcher will automatically switch between the cameras, viewing 1 camera at a time. The quad processor will switch between the cameras AND also show all cameras on one screen.

How-To

Power supply plugs into camera lead wire (or cable depending upon how it is set up)

Camera lead wire plugs into cable.

Cable is installed from the camera lead wire to the monitor or TV.

Cable plugs into the rear of the monitor or TV depending upon the model TV you have.

How-To for Multiple Cameras

Power supply plugs into camera lead wire (or cable depending upon how it is set up)

There may be a single power supply or multiple depending upon how you set up the system. Up to 4 power supplies.

Camera lead wire plugs into cable.

Each camera will have it's own lead wire.

Up to 4 Cameras

Cable is installed from the camera lead wire to the rear of the switcher or quad.

There will be 1 cable for each camera.

Up to 4 cables

The cables will plug into the rear of the switcher or quad. an additional cable will be connected between the switcher or the quad to the monitor or TV.

Cable plugs into the rear of the monitor or TV depending upon the model TV you have.

Guidelines for installing a surveillance system

When installing a surveillance system, be sure to use the proper lead wires for the equipment you are installing.

WARNING...Do not cut the cables and attempt to splice them together.

Use the proper cables. It will not hurt the video quality if the cables are longer than you need! Longer is better than too short.

Be sure that the power supply is the proper voltage and current for your installation. As a rule of thumb, the 12v DC, 1500ma power supply will be sufficient for a 4 camera set-up. A regulated power supply is recommended. It will keep a stable voltage and current avoiding equipment damage. Indoor installations

All cameras may be used for indoor installations. If there are low or high temp. or high humidity, use an approved outdoor camera.

Outdoor installations

Only use cameras OR camera housings approved for outdoor installations. Outdoor housings will accept non-outdoor cameras!

When ordering board cameras, be sure you are familiar with soldering procedures. Camera leads are color coded and generally follow this code

RED = positive (12v+)

YELLOW = video

White = Audio

Black, usually 2 wires, common or ground

Follow the instructions included in all camera orders.
